Who Gave AI Permission? Designing the Moment Before a System Acts
BIOGRAPHY
Saloni Shukla is a multidisciplinary design researcher whose work explores how intelligent systems interpret human behaviour and shape our experiences of digital and physical environments. With a background spanning spatial design, product and service design, and immersive technologies across India, Italy, and the UK, she investigates the relationship between human agency, uncertainty, and responsive systems. Her research includes Therapeutic Realms, an immersive experience exploring spatial reflection and interpretation. More recently, she developed Interpretation-Gated Adaptation (IGA), a design framework that examines when AI systems have sufficient evidence and permission to act. Her work challenges the assumption that the ability to interpret human behaviour automatically grants the authority to intervene.
